Because... life is too short.
Founded in 2003, PREVAIL was born out of the need to 'stop the violence' against women, children, elderly and, men. The intent of this organization is to, raise awareness, take action for positive change and to encourage the re-valuing of persons and families affected by abuse. PREVAIL serves to address and hopefully correct, abuse patterns of offenders and victims through education, information, elevation and empowerment.
The 'I Could Be Your Sister...' campaign was began through efforts to demostrate the legacy of abuse is: despair, a loss of self worth, and in some cases economic homelessness brought on by displacement, due to living in fear, and in some cases, 'forced' home abandonment. Although preserving life is of premiere concern, and one should never remain in situations where there is even a threat of danger, PREVAIL asks the questions, why one has to flee, escape, or run and live in hiding from a person, or persons who break laws put in place to protect citizens from assault and battery.
PREVAIL hopes to encourage surviving abusive relationships through social partnerships with programs that address offenders, while helping families remain safely in tact. "Little Tommy''
shouldn't have to flee friends, schools, playmates, neighbors and toys just to live safe. Teaching victims to run for thier lives... abandoning everything, in a lot of cases, conditions them to believe they are helpless and can no longer live normally in society. Out of that fear breeds homelessness and poverty, social displacement. In reality, there should be laws in place to protect the unity and functionality of the family base from abuse, displacement, despair and disruption.
PREVAIL hopes to teach 'different' methods of recovery for both victims and those who abuse with accountability, restitution, and a commitment to living mentally, emotionally and financially healthy.
